Seven sins have wrecked thousands of believers. Know them… fight them… or they will finish you.
New?
Nice to meet you! Thanks for checking out Ax Church. Everyone is welcome to hang out with us no matter where you are on your faith journey. You don’t have to dress up a certain way to come to church and you aren’t expected to bring money or answer questions. Stop by or send us a message!
What makes Ax, Ax.
Ax church has seven core values that define the way we do life and church. This list is the heartbeat of Ax, things we will never change.
We don’t think you need a degree in theology to spread the good news of Jesus. The best ministry is accomplished by doing what you can, with what you have, where you are. Every Jesus follower is called to reflect God’s goodness in their life because faith without action is dead.
Other churches are our allies, not our enemies. We work with other churches to accomplish greater things than we could ever do alone. It’s all about God’s Kingdom, and we will gladly recommend other churches to people if Ax is not their style. We are one part of a move of God in the Illinois Valley.
We invest our time and energy into people instead of elaborate ministry programs. Every person is valuable, whether young, old, rich, or poor, and we want to know their story. Our goal is that everyone finds best friends at Ax and relationships that last a lifetime.
Religion is primarily about rules and outward practices that fool people into thinking they are getting closer to God. We reject religion and focus on a real relationship with God. We believe controversy follows Jesus. So, as we follow Jesus, controversy will follow us.
We believe that honesty is the best course of action in all circumstances. We want everyone in Ax to feel comfortable sharing their flaws and failures instead of putting on a mask to cover them up. We celebrate confession because it is the path to forgiveness and healing.
We live in a perpetual state of victory despite our circumstances. Jesus keeps showing up and doing miracles, so we keep cheering. We take time to celebrate good news in Ax and in the lives of our friends. We walk with an atmosphere of expectancy of what God will do next.
The end goal isn’t simply to have a relationship with Jesus. It’s to help others start a relationship with Jesus, too. We welcome people to come as they are, but we don’t stop there. We go to the places they are at and carry the gospel along with us. We find those who are lost and introduce them to the same Jesus that found us.
Get Connected
At Ax Church, we LOVE kids! Not only do we do many special events for children throughout the year, but we also strive to have an exciting and creative weekly service kids will look forward to! We want Sunday to be the best day of your kids’ week!
Groups are a great way to meet friends and grow in your faith. It can be hard to walk up to someone and start a frienship, but groups turn a crowd into a community.
God has given you gifts to help others around you! It isn’t about some elaborate and confusing plan, it’s about doing what you can today. Teams are a great way to find your purpose while serving others.
Leadership
Cameron is obsessed with finding people who are lost and introducing them to Jesus. He is passionate about helping people who already know Jesus find their specific calling and live their life on purpose. Cameron is the founding pastor of Ax Church and led its team to plant the church in 2010. He believes that Ax is meant to reach those in our area that have been forgotten and strengthen the work of other churches in the Illinois Valley. Aside from all this churchy stuff, Cameron loves being a husband (to Aimee) and dad to his two sons and two daughters. He still works as an engine machinist part time for his family business, loves rock climbing, and his favorite tv character of all time is Ron Swanson from Parks and Recreation. If you would like to connect with him, feel free to send him an email. He rarely turns down an offer to go out for coffee.
